Many people don't know where to start when it comes to determining the root cause of a SQL Server performance problem. The symptoms can often be misleading. When that is combined with the general industry outlook that SQL Server DBAs don't need real training, the result is inefficient troubleshooting and wasted time.
Stop spending time going down the wrong path. Learn the ins and outs of performance monitoring and tuning from SQL expert Andrew Kelly. This 3-day intensive workshop will teach you the proper techniques and mind set required to capture and analyze performance problems in real-life scenarios. The workshop will cover the overall goals you should have in mind when collecting this information and how that data will be used later to determine if any performance issues or bottlenecks are present. You'll learn the proper approaches to identifying the particular culprits and finally how to address them.
What You'll Learn
- Memory – A dive into the memory utilization of SQL Server for both 32- and 64-bit systems and the key related components (how SQL Server utilizes memory, SQL Server memory settings, signs of memory pressure, memory specific counters, and more)
- Query Tuning – Basics of query tuning, stressing the most common problems you are likely to encounter and how to address them
- Storage Subsystems & I/O – The essentials of I/O as it pertains to SQL Server including the different hardware configurations
- File & Wait Statistics – Learn how to capture and analyze the wealth of information that can be obtained from these sources of data
- Plan Reuse – A deep dive into how the engine uses the plan cache and the common problems associated with it
- Index Use & Tuning – How to determine which indexes are being used along with understanding how indexes can affect the queries
